Download Books & Movies

The Manchester City Library is pleased to offer our patrons the ability to download free ebooks, magazines, audio books, music, videos, and graphic novels to their e-readers and mobile devices. Read below to learn more about our digital services and how they work.

Please note that digital titles, once checked out, may be streamed online, or viewed within a web browser on our public computers. If you wish to download titles for offline use, however, you'll need to use your own device. You may download digital titles using our public wifi, but not our public computers.

News:

03/19/2024 -- Changes to Android OS Support for Overdrive/Libby/Knaopy. As of April 15, 2024, Android 7.1.1 will be the earliest supported Android OS for all OverDrive apps and websites, including Libby and Kanopy. Started March 25, impacted users will see a message to update their OS or switch to another supported device to continue using the app.

11/01/2023 -- Changes to Kanopy checkouts. Credits have changed to tickets. Patrons are limited to 15 tickets per month (Not including Kanopy Kids).  Great Courses cost 5 tickets with access to all the episodes for 21 days.

08/02/2023 - Library to stop offering Hoopla August 31, 2023.

The Manchester City Library began offering Hoopla in 2017 on a trial basis to provide streaming music and movies. Since starting Hoopla, the costs associated with the service have risen steadily. Although it is free for patrons to use, MCL gets charged for every item a patron checks out. The more Hoopla gets used, the more it costs. We believe the pricing model and cost of Hoopla make it unsustainable for MCL, and will reallocate our resources to other digital content.

While patrons will no longer be able to access Hoopla, they will still be able to access content from OverDrive/Libby, cloudLibrary, and Kanopy.

You do not have to cancel or delete your Hoopla access. Starting the evening of August 31, 2023 you will simply no longer be able to borrow Hoopla content. Unfortunately, there isn’t another way to access Hoopla, unless you are a member of another library or library system that offers it.

If there were titles carried by Hoopla that aren’t available through our other ebook providers, you can recommend those for purchase by contact the library at 603-624-6550 ext. 7619 or library@manchesternh.gov.
