Donate materials to the Manchester City Library

Used books and materials

The Manchester City Library can accept donations of 1 to 2 boxes of materials at either the main library at 405 Pine Street or the West Manchester Branch Library at 76 N. Main Street during regular business hours. We are only accepting materials that are in good condition that have not been previously discarded by a library.

The following items are not accepted:

  • encyclopedia sets
  • magazines
  • textbooks
  • Books with outdated information
  • cassette tapes (video or audio)
  • any books that contain mold, dirt, have been previously discarded or are damaged

Donated materials are utilized by the library for many purposes. We cannot guarantee that your donation will be added to our collection.

Gifts and Memorials Policy

Books and other materials given to the Library will be accepted on condition that the Library Director and the Board of Trustees may make whatever disposition of the gift they deem advisable. The Library cannot provide appraisals for income-tax purposes, but the donor may request a receipt listing the items as gifts to the Library.

Patrons who wish to give money for the purchase of a particular book may ask for a bookplate giving the name of the donor and/or the name of the person being honored by the gift.

Gifts of money, real property, and/or stock will be accepted, if conditions attached thereto are acceptable to the Board of Trustees. Outright grants or income from bequests to the Library are received and administered by the Board of Trustees, according to the wishes of the donor and the needs of the Library.

Personal property, art objects, paintings, antiques and other objects will be accepted at the discretion of the Board of Trustees.
