Newspaper article/obituary searches
The Manchester City Library retains copies of the local newspaper from 1863 to the present; however, there is no index prior to 1989. There is also no guarantee that an obituary was actually printed in the newspaper.
Patrons have the option to visit the Manchester City Library in person to search for an obituary or article. Staff will instruct patrons in the use of the library’s microfilm machines and making copies at a cost of 25¢ per page.
If you prefer to have the library conduct the search on your behalf, please print, fill out and submit the request form below. A fee of $15 per search will be charged if the exact date of death, or date of the event, is provided. We will search for a period of seven (7) days after the date given. If only the month and year are provided, a fee of $35 per name or event will be charged, and an entire month (30 days) will be searched. A maximum of five (5) pages of copies are included in these fees; if more than five (5) pages are requested, additional charges may apply. Please note that all search fees are to be prepaid and are non-refundable.
